May is a while back, but I presented a slideshow to the Frederick Camera Clique last night pulling out over 100 of the best photos taken by 20 students at the May 15th workshops and so the topic is once again fresh at hand.
Yesterday, Oct 14th, marked my 25,000th sale at iStockphoto and thus, my induction into the Diamond level of contributors. This is a huge milestone, being among the top 2% at the biggest name in microstock photography. Here's hoping for another great year!
What fun!
iStock is one of the major stock photography outlets I regularly supply material to. They pioneered "microstock" and have continued to innovate the way stock imagery is produced and consumed. They're part of the Getty Images family, more recently, a big part.

September 19th and 20th brought crowds, fashion, and excitement to downtown Frederick, as the Frederick Arts Council hosted the 2nd Annual Frederick Fashion Week event. It was an amazing series of shows, and built upon the successes of last year. This year, 8 local fashion designers and clothing boutiques teamed up with area cosmetology schools and salons to put together stunning shows!
I was thrilled to be the primary photographer for Fashion Week this year. I brought even more lighting equipment than last year, and though it was exhausting, it was worth every bit of effort. Everyone who worked on the show was amazing, and I'm looking forward to working with many of the 100+ models who where in the shows, not to mention doing more commercial photography for the vendors.
Photos from the event are online now and available for purchase, or just have fun browsing -

I'd like to thank all of the vendors for their efforts, and help organizing such a large event! Aspire, Bezo, Danny Tran, Social Studies and Velvet Lounge, Cowboy Stuff, Sky's the Limit, Fashion Exchange, Zebop, Frederick School of Cosmetology, Natural Fusion, Structures Salon, and The Temple ... See you again on '09!
Just wanted to relay a fun bit of info - I did an interview with Frederick Cable Channel 10 today. The segment discusses the Frederick Camera Clique's Summer Show, and will air on the Artscape program beginning next Tuesday at 11:30pm.
Update: You can now view the QuickTime video of the Artscape segment is now online at the Frederick Camera Clique's website.
The Frederic Camera Clique's 2008 Summer Show opened today and my photo -- "Newborn Hope" -- placed 2nd in the Portrait & Figure category! Anytime I have entries accepted to a juried show I am thrilled and placing is the icing on the cake. Part of the enjoyment I take from this year's showing is that newborn, infant, and children's portraiture make up a good bit of the studio portraiture I do. It's very encouraging when judges in the field put that kind of stamp of approval on your efforts!
The Frederick Camera Clique is a Frederick based photography club and their juried art exhibition that runs every summer at the Mary Condon Hodgeson Gallery at Frederick Community College is considered to be one of the most prestigious shows in the area. It draws artists from all over Maryland, DC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania resulting in a great show and stiff competition for all who enter. This summer was their 23rd annual show. My print titled, "Roaring
Ferris Wheel" won 1st Place in the Cumberland Valley Photographic Salon. It is in the Color Landscape + Architecture category of the exhibit, the
largest category in the show. This is my second 1st Place showing this year! It's is also the first time my art has hung in a museum.
This show is hosted annually by the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and draws the best photographers from Maryland, DC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious exhibitions in the area.

I love so many kinds of photography, and one thing that keeps me sharp, innovative, and on the leading edge of commercial photography is the stock photography I shoot as part of my business. Today I am proud to announce I've become an Exclusive artist at iStockPhoto.com. I used to contribute to several stock agencies but iStock is the 800 pound gorilla on the microstock side of the business and it makes sense to partner exclusively with them.
If you are a designer, or other buyer of stock photos, take a look at my portfolio on iStock, I may have just what you're looking for.
What fun to cover Frederick's first Fashion Week, an even put on by ArtNEXT in partnership with local clothing boutiques, salon's, and spas. If you didn't make it this year, be sure to come out in '08!
Today was the opening for the Frederick Camera Clique's 21st Annual Juried Competition. This regional show draws professionals and serious photography enthusiasts from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC.
I am thrilled to share that my print titled, "Custom Chrome" won 1st Place in the Monochrome category. I had 3 other photographs in the show, which was an accomplishment given that show judges chose only 46 images from over 220 submissions.
The show runs through September 5th at the Mary Condon Hodgson Gallery at FCC. If you have a chance, stop in, there are many wonderful photographs to see!
